What is a 'Student Rep'?!
Student Reps are here to represent your voice at Hartpury. The primary role of a Student Rep is to collect the views of all the students they represent and then take these views to meetings and to staff to bring about positive change.
Reps will also attend student consultations which take place when Hartpury are preparing to create something new or make changes – it can be about anything from the food options in the canteen to changes to academic regulations.
Why are Reps Important?
Student Reps are key to making sure that your voice and feedback is brought to the heart of any decisions made at Hartpury. They make a real difference at course level, and also have many wins across their departments and beyond!
Rep feedback has seen some real improvements at Hartpury - check out our recent big wins on the Student Voice page.
What Meetings Do Reps Attend?
Our college and university reps attend slightly different meetings, but essentially have two key formats:
SU REp forums
Chaired by our Representation Officer, these meetings focus on non-academic experience e.g. catering, transport, facilities and so on.
We host 3 or 4 meetings per year.
Academic meetings
These are focussed on all things academic - programme / course content, practical sessions and exams etc.
Uni students will attend 'programme committee meetings' and 'department committee meetings'
Student Reps also have the opportunity to sit on higher level committees such as Academic Standards and Enhancement Committee, Curriculum Validation Committees, Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee, Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Forum, Health and Safety Forum and Mental Health and Resilience Steering Group. This system ensures that students can have their voice heard all the way through Hartpury.
Want to become a Student Rep?
Feeling inspired?! You can put yourself forward to be a student rep at the start of the year - talk to your tutor about when the rep recruitment will happen for your class.
In the past, Reps have told us that they stood for the role because they want to help people, make a difference, enhance their CV and meet new peesr– if that sounds good to you let your course tutor know that you would like to put your name forward!
