Hartpury Student Council
What is Student Council?
The Students' Union (SU) organises and runs 3 Student Council meetings each academic year, bringing together a wide range of students from different backgrounds.
Student Council exists so that key decisions within the SU are informed by students, not just SU staff and SU officers. This means that the direction of the SU is almost entirely paved by the student body, ensuring that we are always acting in the best interest of students and their needs.
Who can Attend a Student Council Meeting?
Any Hartpury student can openly attend a Student Council meeting, and can speak with the consent of the Chair, however, only Student Council Members can vote. All Student Council Meetings are hybrid and take place in the evenings to make them as accessible as possible.
Any Hartpury student can submit a topic for members to debate at a Student Council meeting, also known as a 'motion'. The student who submits the motion is known as the 'proposer', and motions must have the signature of a 2nd student, known as the 'seconder'. We have a motion template and example to help you if you have a topic you want Student Council members to discuss. Please send any motions to studentsunion@hartpury.ac.uk at-least 1 week before a meeting is due to take place.

We receive sector updates from the college and the university, which detail any ongoing or upcoming projects at Hartpury, as well as national sector news.

Membership of Student Council
Following what is outlined in the Student Council Terms of Reference, the following student groups make up the membership of Student Council:

This SU Rep can be from any department, and can be a level 7 taught (PGT), research (PGR) or level 8 PhD student.
Liberation Representatives
Liberation Representatives are volunteers who work to represent minority groups of students, which may include but is not limited to:

Chairs of Clubs and Societies
If the chair is not available to attend a meeting, they can nominate another committee member to sit in for them (either the secretary, treasurer, or any additional committee member they may have)
